Case Study: Penthouse Closet in Bloomington Rises to the Occasion

What could be better than having gorgeous mile long views of the Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge? Why having a fully decked-out and organized closets to go along with it. When our clients asked us to design the closets for their gorgeous penthouse in Bloomington, they only had one stipulation. Make the closets as clean and beautiful as the view is. What would have normally been the master closet wasn’t big enough for both of their clothes, so they decided to use an extra room on the second floor as a second master closet for his clothes. The view from this second master closet is breath taking and we can imagine how incredible it must be to get changed every morning with a view like that.

The main master closet had another set of challenges. It had to preform double duty as a laundry room as well as fit all her clothes. They wanted to be able to take care of everything for laundry in that room. Folding, drying, and Ironing as well as having it serve as a master closet. They wanted to have an enclosure built around the washer/dryer so it blended in better with the rest of the room. To make sure that behind the machine could still be accessed in case it ever needed to be repaired we built a custom magnetic panel that would reveal the plumbing and electrical wiring behind the machine. A pull-out ironing drawer next to the washing machine as well as a hanging drying rack completes the laundry station.

One of the challenges with the room was being able to make the cabinetry floor to ceiling. Building codes stated that all cabinetry must be a certain distance away from fire sprinklers. To get around this limitation we created a rout-out hole for the sprinkler at the top of the center section and had the sprinkler plumbing connected to it.
